According to the Journal of Translational Medicine, social media has enabled scientists to communicate their research quickly and efficiently throughout each corner of the world. The range of social media platforms they are using is broad and depends on discipline and sentiment. It is increasingly apparent that the ability to communicate is critical to the distribution of scientific information among professionals in the field and to the general population.
To address this topic, ICF's second event in the newly launched Health Information Forum includes invited panelists Tori Garten, Chief, New Media and Web Policy Branch, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and Lakshmi Grama, Senior Digital Content Strategist, National Cancer Institute. Some of the questions the speakers will address include:
- How can social media be used effectively to enhance scientific research?
- How have new media tools been used to positively influence the lives of people with cancer?
- How do web and new media design and development activities influence public health communication?
The panel will be moderated by ICF’s Ronne Ostby.
